I've been keeping up with the proposition 8 issue since around election time...since I am a New Yorker I felt terribly angry and hurt for all of the people who were being stripped of their rights, but I felt a little disconnected since I am not living there. Well, now it has REALLY hit home for me. I just read that because of the way the world works and proposition 8 being passed, New York may not even try to pass a law allowing gays to marry until 2011 (They were talking about trying in '09 at first). I think it is sad and stupid that they are giving up before even bringing it to the senate. We deserve more than that. With that and the news that the Westboro Baptist Church is going to be visiting a high school about an hour away from me to picket homosexuality has made my sensitivity to all of this crap really high. I've always been passionate about this issue but right now I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed. It just seems that we are slipping from the governments concern and we need to push super hard to be heard and to be validated. I hope that if anyone hears about protests or opportunities to discuss the issue with goverment representatives, they do so. I just want to be able to see the kind of pictures of couples celebrating their unions (especially the senior citizens who have been waiting for decades for the right) that I was seeing for a while in California. I want to see them from every state in this wonderful country.
